The University of Chicago Brain Research Imaging Center (BRIC) was founded in September 1999, with the formal commitment by the Biological Science Division to purchase a magnetic resonance scanner devoted strictly to research on the human brain. The BRIC includes four major components that comprise its service mission: personnel, space, imaging equipment, and computational resources. Associated with the BRIC is an excellent group of researchers working to develop magnetic resonance imaging methods and apply them to questions in cognitive and neural science. The BRIC houses a new GE Signa LX3 Tesla research-only MR scanner. The facility has the necessary equipment for functional MRI (fMRI), including devices for presenting visual and auditory stimuli to people undergoing fMRI scans and recording their verbal and tactile responses. Current computational resources include over twenty high powered workstations connected by a very high speed network. Investigators also have access to many software packages for image acquisition and image analysis. See facility website for application and scheduling information. |
